Donations to Diabetes UK in 2007

  • At the meeting on 7th June, Mrs Pat Housego presented the Chairman with monies to the value of £335. Pat had just celebrated her 60th birthday and had requested that her friends and relatives did not give her presents, but instead donate to Diabetes UK. She was given a card and bouquet by the committee. A card and voucher was also presented to Mr David Robbins, who had just celebrated his 70th birthday.

Well done Jackie

One of our members from Leighton Buzzard, Jackie Bobrowski decided she wanted to become more pro-active in raising funds for the group. Jackie, with the help of her family and friends, organised a stall at the local charity fair taking place in Leighton Buzzard town centre on May Day Bank holiday this year, selling cakes, plants etc. Although the weather was not very kind to them on the day, they managed to raise £154. Well done. Picture Right:Jackie presenting the cheque to the Chairman of the Group, Ken Parker.

  • At the March committee meeting it was decided that we would send our first cheque of the year to Diabetes UK. Several ideas were discussed and it was eventually decided to send £5000 to Diabetes UK for specific use towards its Careline. The Careline is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm for support and information. This is a valuable area of support for those who are experiencing some difficulty with their diabetes or just need to talk to someone. Their number is 0845 120 2960, or for people with a hearing impairment, textphone 020 7424 1031. The Careline also has an interpreting service if English is not a first language. Recorded diabetes information is available 24 hours a day via their main number. You can also write to them at Diabetes Careline, 10 Parkway, London NW1 7AA or e-mail them at careline@diabetes.org.uk. All services are confidential but they are unable to give individual medical advice.
