Fundraising for Diabetes UK is
still a
major part of our role as a group. All the money that we raise is
allocated to research projects via Diabetes UK. The choice of
project is usually decided at a Committee meeting, but members of
the group are invited to suggest areas where they would like the
money to go. It can only go to projects which would not be supported
by NHS funding.
In April 2011 the committee decided that they were in a position to once again donate to
one of the research projects. This time we have chosen something
slightly different. The Diabetes researchers at King's College,
London have been using a new piece of equipment known as a Nikon Biostation, but the equipment has only been on loan to them. They
would like to be able to buy one, which could be used by all the
researchers in the group. They hope that it would lead to the
development of new theories for Type 2 diabetes and improve islet
transplantation therapies for those with Type 1.We have made a
donation to them of £4000 to help towards the cost of this £50,000
time - lapse microscope. Once again we hope that in the future
someone involved with using this state of the art equipment will be
available to talk to us.
Thank you to everyone who has
contributed in any way towards our fundraising efforts. Keep up the
good work!
